Thousands of new tokens launch on Solana every day, and a large share are designed to take buyers' money. None of the checks below can prove a token is safe. Together, they catch most of the obvious traps in a couple of minutes.

1. Is the contract address the real one?

Copycat tokens reuse popular names and tickers. Get the contract address from the project's own site or verified account and compare it character by character. Never buy from a name search alone.

2. Is mint authority revoked?

If mint authority is still active, someone can create new tokens at any time and dump them on holders. For most memecoins it should be revoked.

3. Is freeze authority revoked?

Freeze authority lets its holder freeze any wallet's tokens, so you could buy and then be unable to sell. This is the most common Solana honeypot. If it is active, walk away unless you have a very good reason.

4. How deep is the liquidity, and is it locked?

Liquidity is the money in the pool you trade against. Thin liquidity means big price impact and a pool that can be drained. Check that the pool's liquidity tokens are burned or locked, so the creator cannot pull them. Read market cap vs liquidity.

5. Who holds the supply?

If the top 10 wallets (excluding the pool) hold a large share, a few people can crash the price. Look for clusters of new wallets funded from the same source, which often belong to one person.

6. Is there a transfer fee?

Tokens built on Solana's newer token standard can charge a fee on every transfer. A high one quietly takes a cut of every sale. A safety scan will show it.

7. What have the creator and insiders done?

Has the creator wallet sold? Did a few wallets buy in the first seconds and start selling into new buyers? Has the creator launched tokens before that went to zero?
